A picture is worth a thousand words….
…until it leaves you absolutely speechless.
Such is the case for these most magical and surreally beautiful images by Aisha Khan, of Natanie and Mark, and their modern-day fairytale wedding elopement at Lake Bled, Slovenia.
A few years ago I shared a photo on Instagram of this beautiful “castle” in the middle of a lake, somewhere in Europe. It was enchanting and inspiring…and straight out of a storybook. I also wasn’t completely sure it was a real place (it just seemed too perfect!) Flash forward a couple of years, and imagine my surprise when seeing a few peeks of our Bride Natanie, tying the knot in this very real, very enchanting place. It’s Lake Bled in Slovenia. And not only is it absolutely breathtaking, but the legends and traditions surrounding Lake Bled are just as romantic.
The island in the middle of Lake Bled features 99 stone steps, leading up to an ancient church and bell tower- built in 1655. Tradition states that a groom must carry his bride up all 99 steps, while they remain completely silent. Once atop, the couple rings the bell and makes a wish.
Lake Bled and it’s folklore inspired this most magical non-traditional wedding of Natanie and Mark, and these exquisite images (by the crazy talented Aisha Khan) of their day tell their story. From a horse drawn carriage ride, to boating across Lake Bled to the island, to a suspended bridge atop the mountains surrounding Lake Bled, and ending inside a cave–this wedding is nothing short of an epic adventure. And Natanie did it all in her custom Lauren Elaine “Epiphany.” Follow along on their journey as they make it to the top of the steps– and live vicariously via the gallery below:
So very Fairytale romantic and sweet!!!
