I love a good backless gown. Backless silhouettes effortlessly mix elegance with sexiness, while still being 100% appropriate for a wedding dress. In fact, I love them so much, almost all of our gowns can be made to feature a backless, or open back design element. That being said, when brides visit our Style House Salon and say ‘yes’ to their dream backless wedding gown, one question almost immediately follows? “What sort of bra do I wear with this?”
While all of our backless gowns are made standard with bra cups and boning to create shape and support and help eliminate the need for undergarments, not every girl’s comfortable opting out of lingerie for her big day. Properly fitting lingerie, specialty bras in particular, can make a world of difference! So I’ve rounded up some of my favorite backless and low-back bra styles to complement and enhance your favorite backless Lauren Elaine gown.
Disappearing act: For illusion gowns like our “Pallas”, their peak-a-boo illusion design makes wearing a bra almost impossible. Opt for adhesive styles, like the Le Lusion Plunge Backless Adhesive Bra to provide extra coverage and support. It’s adhesive style allows you to position it in many different ways to work seamlessly under low cut illusion gowns.
See-through Backs: For our illusion back gowns, like “Capella,” opt for a self adhesive strapless bra – like Go Bare Self-Adhesive Backless Strapless Bra – which allows for full coverage and support in the front, while maintaining the illusion on the sides and back.
Need more pick-me-up: Want a little more fullness in your backless gown, try Nordstrom Adhesive Silicone Cups – they offer the same stick-on concept, but add volume and shape with silicone. They can also be positioned in many different ways which allows them to work underneath almost any bodice silhouette.
The Classic: The Nubra has been popular for a while, and that’s for good reason. It’s the original self-adhesive strapless bra that clasps in the center – allowing for maximum lift and support.
Low-Dip, Full Coverage: For plunging necklines seen on our “Lucite”, as well as Deep-V styles, opt for a plunging strapless bra. Because they sit lower on the ribcage, they tend to be most comfortable to wear, while offering adding support despite their plunging shape.
A strapless wonder: For semi-backless gowns, a traditional strapless bra can often do the trick. But if you’re looking for added lift and shape, the versatile shape of Wonderbra’s Ultimate Strapless Bra makes it a go-to bra for almost any low-back gown and sweetheart neckline.
Support System: The ultimate in support, a low-back bustier bra works like a corset to lift and squeeze – allowing for maximum support. Because it sits at the waistline, it’s also surprising comfortable, and you won’t be pulling it up all night on the dance floor!
Strapless bras that pack support: If you’ve opted for a low back, but not quite backless silhouette, like “Bijou,” these strapless bras are powerful and comfortable. Wider band ensure better comfort and staying power, while a curved center bust shape and underwire offer the most lift.
