Somewhere along the North Shore of the US Virgin Island of Saint John, is one of the most beautiful beaches you’ve probably never heard of.
Since tying the knot in 2013, an ‘annual honeymoon’ is something my husband and I try to plan each year, to treat ourselves and celebrate our marriage. Call it a vacation, call it an anniversary trip – it’s always just the two of us, and it’s always somewhere new and unexplored.
A West Coast girl through and through, I’d always reserved Hawaii as my go-to beach destination of choice. But during a tour d’Virgin Islands & West Indies, while celebrating our ‘annual honeymoon’- I added a slew of new beach destinations to my favorites list.
Enter St. John.
After dipping our toes in the sugar white sand and crystal clear waters of the aptly named ‘Honeymoon Bay’ – we set off to find the illusive ‘Oppenheimer Beach.’
A secret beach named after its owner, Robert Oppenheimer – father of the Atomic Bomb (ironically peaceful setting when considering the latter) – this destination is one for the books – or Instagram (it’s beyond photogenic!) And best of all — there’s absolutely nothing there! No hotels, no bars, no beach rentals — just some monkeys, coconuts, and one of the world’s most beautifully secluded beaches.
Oh yeah…and a tire swing!
Your own. Personal. Tire swing. It’s off the beaten path, but worth the trek. If you find yourself on St. John, in search of a beach away from the tourists, you can find it here.
And if you’re a bride in search of a unique destination wedding location – you’re in luck! Technically, you can rent this beach out. And in the spirit of destination beach weddings, I’m sharing some of my favorite beach-inspired gowns to pair with this, and any other romantic beach location below.
Easiest Beach Elegance: “Isla” Gown
Mermaid Out of Water: “Arabelle” Gown
Belle of the Beach: “Aislin” Gown
